If a Book Genie granted me three wishes…

Literary daydreams are my favorite daydreams. I, naturally, would prefer to be reading books all day everyday, but sadly, that’s not realistic. {insert sad face}. But to make up for it, I find myself often living in my favorite stories via daydreams. I saw an internet post a few days ago that posed the question: If you had a Book Genie to grant you three literary based wishes, what would you wish for? Wow, what a question!! My mind almost overloaded!
Before I could hone in on my three wishes, I decided that there had to be some ground rules for the wishes:
It had to be a wish based in literature some way - even if it was just slightly
It could be a wish based on the author of a book
It could be based on the books “world”
It could be based on an adaptation of the book (play or movie…)
It could NOT change the plot, or things that happened in the book (Sorry, that character who died… still dead.)
It could NOT promote violence to an author you might be mad at.
It could bring the book’s world to ours
It could take you to the book’s world
Time Travel is ON THE TABLE
Okay, ground rules laid. But what to wish for? A date with Four? Dinner with Rick Riordan? Tea with Agatha Christie???? A chance to prove myself in the Hunger Games arena? There is just so much to consider…
So, after much thought, I have come up with my three wishes. Here we go…
Wish number 1 - My own magic wand (and the ability to use it!)
I’m not going to lie. This would be the best thing to ever happen. Can you imagine how much easier EVERYTHING would be if we had a magic wand to help us? YES! It would be glorious! I have spent way too much time thinking about the first thing I would do with a magic wand, so just for fun - here are my top picks for the first three things I would do with a wand…
Make clothes that always stay clean and automatically adjust to my current size.
Fix my vision so I don’t have to wear glasses anymore.
Make my house and dishes self cleaning as well.
Okay, so my first moves would be completely selfish. Then I would do a bunch of save the planet and all the people in it stuff…
Wish Number 2 - One week in Middle Earth
Let’s face it. I’d probably be dead before the week was over, but WHAT a week it would be! Eating (and eating and eating) with Hobbits, archery with the Elves, reclaiming the mountain with the Dwarves, riding with the Riders of Rohan… yes. It would be an epic week. An epic, terrifying week. I’m not sure what would kill me off - Orcs, goblins, necromancers, Nazguls… many option of demise. But who knows - maybe the Rangers will somehow manage to keep me alive…
Wish Number 3 - One Dance with Mr. Darcy
If a girl’s father is supposed to be her first love, then Mr. Darcy should absolutely be her second. Pride and Prejudice is my all time favorite book, and Mr. Darcy is (appropriately) the greatest and most long lasting literary crush of my life. I don’t want to take him from Elizabeth… but I would love just one dance with him. I don’t even care if he’s rude during said dance. That might actually be more fun!
So, there they are. My top 3 wishes to my Literary Genie. What would you wish for?
